Paper, a “Never Ending Story”

Cartiere del Polesine’s production utilizes only secondary fibers, more precisely waste paper from waste sorting, from corrugated packaging and from converters’ shavings.

Our paper is used for corrugated board which, once used up, is recycled, and can be once again used as raw material. So the final product, corrugated packaging, is the most natural, recyclable and renewable package that exists and thus our paper returns to life becoming packaging once again, in a virtuous circle.

The Consorzio Nazionale Recupero e Riciclo degli Imballaggi a Base Cellulosica (Comieco) (National Body for Recovery and Recycling of Cellulose-Based Packaging) of which we are part, is the national guarantor of waste sorting and for setting up the recycling of paper and board.

The Body is active in the promotion of correct management and sorting of waste, urging the public to develop a “recycling culture” which can still find room for improvement in our country.

Energy

In line with the company’s environmental policy and sustainable development goals, the utmost attention is also given to energy aspects, both in terms of management and plant engineering.

Both production sites are equipped with cogeneration plants powered by natural gas. Specifically, the Loreo facility features a plant with a high-power boiler and a back-pressure steam turbine, while the Adria facility operates a recently installed gas turbine and heat recovery boiler. This system has received CAR (High-Efficiency Cogeneration) certification, meaning it is designed to maximize efficiency and achieve significant primary energy savings compared to the separate production of electricity and heat. Additionally, it is configured to run on a fuel blend containing up to 20% hydrogen.

These systems meet the thermal energy requirements of the production facilities, and in the case of Adria, also cover the electricity demand.
Lastly, it is worth mentioning the presence of a cogeneration plant with an internal combustion engine powered by biogas produced from the process water pretreatment plant.

Water Treatment Plant

The wastewater treatment plant consists of two sections: an anaerobic pretreatment stage with biogas production, followed by a biological treatment stage using activated sludge.
A dedicated company department systematically monitors the plant’s operational parameters and carefully manages its maintenance.
Overall, the system ensures high purification efficiency while allowing for energy recovery.
